applebound

signing off for now. i'm out of the office tomorrow at an all-company meeting, then i'm boarding one of these babies at 4:40 a.m. saturday. i'll check in when i can! love you!!

good news today

Lois Greenfield, who takes these delicious dance photos, is going to do a shoot with us in New York. I don't want to get too excited about it, because we're still working on the schedule, and you never know what will come up, but what an amazing opportunity for Stacey to have one of the greats look through her lense at PDP. Cross your fingers.

PDP takes a breather before heading to NYC

We've never been much for all work and no play...
After rehearsal on Sunday, we settled in for dinner and our favorite game.

Home Alone

I had a great weekend of cleaning and organizing and impulse buying at target. Here is the newest addition to Bed Overhaul 2005. brown fur!

Next I need a bedskirt (now it's purple) and to change the headboard color.

What else? I also collected paint samples and design magazines from Home Depot to initiate Living Room Overhaul 2005. We have started a couch fund, and I tore down the brown drapes. When the rain stops, we will figure out how to remove the 10 foot, brown, quilted, castle-inspired valance. We're going to have to throw it out the second floor window into the back yard and then chop it into pieces for the dump. I should have taken a photo before I touched the curtains. I'll make sure to document the rest of the deconstruction.

Isn't this the silliest thing you have ever seen?

mom, meant to show you where i put your vday gift at work!

Stay tuned for pix from PDP game night. Martinis and Cranium at Kerry and Andrew's lovely house in Berkeley...

OrionsMama gets a new digit today!

Actually, it might have been yesterday... or it might be tomorrow. But I wouldn't even be that close if she hadn't given me a hint. I love you, Saquin!

red and green

Saw this on my way to work today. This tree usually has oranges hanging from it, but today it also has red paper lanterns for the new year. And twinkly lights. This is the corner store I used to admire from the Willamette van when we drove around on those winter volunteer trips. I'd create fantasies around that store where I lived down the block and came on sunny weekend days to buy fresh flowers and fruit for my big girl apartment. I'd be a city girl! Since moving to SF I've only been there once, but I still think of it as "my original corner store".

More new year sparkle: City hall was lit up in red last night. This was taken from the window of the lounge at the Dance Center.

Happy Year of the Wood Rooster!

Yesterday was Shambhala Day, a celebration that coincides with the lunar new year. I took the day off for the festivities. There was a worldwide conference call at the crack of dawn, a community discussion, a big lunch, a tour of the Asian Art Museum, and merriment into the night. In the pic above is our friend Erin with us in the lobby of the museum. Click on the lotus flower for the photo album:

afterthought: during the roll call of all the centers around the world on the conference call, i had a little pang of home pride when they called for the portland, oregon shambhala center. go oregon!

never say never. my hair is in a little pony tail.

hair today...

yesterday i drove to fairfax where christie, one of my dancer pals, works for a salon. she chopped six inches off my hair. these pics are hard for scale, but look at where the hair is compared to my hood before and after:

today!

right now it's very very bouncy-adorable; hopefully by next week it will have chilled out. it's different every 10 minutes so far... and so light i can barely feel it!

for some reason i didn't take a picture of jason at his birthday celebration last night. maybe because the bar was so dark. i did, however, find all these heads in a cage.  Posted by Hello

Standing corrected

I was telling Rachelle at work that I resist the heavy temptation to buy amazingly cheap clothes at Old Navy - I'd heard that Gap Inc. uses sweatshops, and that's how cute pants can cost 20 dollars. Rachelle wished I hadn't told her, because she loves the amazingly cheap clothes at Old Navy. But then she found Gap's Social Responsibily Report, which details their corporate response to the public demand for fair working conditions. They even admit how many factories were grossly in violation of their newly-developed standards. And terminated their business with them. Click for the report:
I will now be going shopping.

Show next weekend!

Got the postcards in the mail yesterday for the show I'm in next weekend. (That's me on the upper right.) I'm expanding the solo I created for last month's show - with entirely different music. By next Wednesday I have to: finish the piece, find someone to edit my music, and come up with a costume. This time I'm inviting people to see. Feb 11/12 . 8pm . jon sims center for the arts . $15-20 (or what you can)
